  • Beginning Your Job Search? What You MUST Know!
  • The Best Way to Use the LinkedIn Open-to-Work Banner
  • The Job Description NEVER Tells The Whole Story

This edition is all about Job Search on purpose! Everywhere I go, someone tells me they are job searching, or their friends or family members. The truth is that most people are feeling uncertain about their career future.

In 2025, even jobs considered "secure or safe" are being hit by mass layoffs or the latest government changes.

Here's how most people go about their job search:

  • Update my resume and LinkedIn profile with the latest tasks from my current or previous job.

They don't take the time to reflect on what roles and companies could match their skills and experience and where they want to take their careers.

Running to a job board to get "answers" about what jobs you should look for can make your job search lengthy and painful, but it doesn't have to be this way.

Before you begin, you need clarity! This step will change how you update your resume and LinkedIn, network, reach out to people, and interview for jobs.

💡 Beginning Your Job Search? What You MUST Know!

Starting a job search can feel like standing at the edge of a vast ocean of applications, especially if you are an introverted professional. The endless job boards, conflicting advice, and uncertainty about where to begin can be overwhelming. But here's the truth: Clarity is the first step to a successful job search.

Instead of diving in without direction, take a moment to pause, reflect, and map out your career vision.

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

🟣 Reflect on Your Career Goals:
Ask yourself what truly drives you. What roles excite you? Which environments allow you to thrive? Clear answers will guide your search and keep you focused.

🟣 Create Your Master Resume:
Build a comprehensive resume that captures all your skills and achievements. Use this as your resource to tailor targeted resumes for each opportunity, saving time and ensuring every application reflects your best self.

🟣 Research and Target Opportunities:
Instead of scattering your efforts across every job board, hone in on companies and roles that align with your values and long-term aspirations. Create a list of ideal employers and set up job alerts to stay informed about opportunities that truly matter.

These are just a few steps to start your journey. Are you ready for a deeper dive into each strategy and practical tips on optimizing your professional documents and network effectively?

🟢 The Best Way to Use the LinkedIn Open-to-Work Banner

In case you missed last week's article, I discussed the LinkedIn Open to Work Banner: Is It Good or Bad for Your Career? Here's the truth about the green banner: It will only work for you if your LinkedIn profile is fully optimized for your desired job (keywords). Recruiters may come to your profile, but they won't send you a message if the profile doesn't match the job they have available. This article has tips on whether you should use this tool and how to make the best of it!

🔎 The Job Description NEVER Tells The Whole Story

Many job seekers believe that researching the company means reading the job description and going to their website to learn a little bit about what they do, but it's much more than that.

Here are some tips on why and how to go beyond the company's website:

🔹 Uncover the culture: A job description often only hints at the company’s environment. Research reviews, social media, and employee testimonials to get a real sense of what it’s like to work there.

🔹 Evaluate long-term fit: Knowing more than the job description helps you assess whether the role matches your career aspirations and values. During the interview, ask the right questions that matter to you to determine whether the job and company are a match.
